Most backups fail quietly
You find out on the day you need them. Copy Shelter counts only the copies it has checked, names the drive that is not plugged in, and speaks up after 7 days without a backup that worked.
A folder still uploading is not a second copy
It is bytes on the same disk as the first one, so a single failure takes you to zero. Copy Shelter says so rather than counting it.
A backup nobody has read back is a guess
Copy Shelter reads yours back and checks every piece against the hash it was stored under, so a mismatch is proof rather than a suspicion, and a piece that has been deleted is reported as missing rather than skipped.
Getting your files back is never a paid feature
Your newest backup restores on Free, after a licence ends, forever. Browsing older versions is a Pro convenience, and it unlocks for everybody the moment the newest backup cannot deliver, without asking anybody to pay first.
No backup tool can restore a startup disk
Apple seals the system volume. You put macOS back from Apple, and Copy Shelter puts everything that was yours on top of it. The app walks you through that before you ever need to, rather than on the day you do.
If we disappear, your backups still open
The format is documented, and the free command line tool reads a backup with nothing but the drive and your recovery key.

Everything is encrypted before it leaves your Mac. The recovery key is generated on your machine and never sent anywhere, which is why nobody, including us, can open your backup or recover that key for you.
